You may have had a contained colony of ants growing up as a kid, but this is a chance to observe and contribute to one in a whole other way. The ants need to work to maintain their way of life and that means that they need resources and strength that are provided through work and numbers. This is why you need to keep the colony thriving and active so that the ants can grow stronger and expand their empire, er, colony.
About Ant Colony
Believe it or not, we seem to have something of an obsession with ant colonies when it comes to digital media. This game is just one of many about ants trying to build a better life for themselves. Ants are strong but they're also targets for many creatures far bigger than them and this includes other insects. This is why you need to use the strengths of your ants to get them organized so that they can gather what they need to grow and stay strong so that they can fight larger foes. You may need to get them ready to take on other colonies too.
How to Play
Ant Colony is a 2D top-down strategy game about managing a colony of ants to gather and fight using the mouse. To interact with the UI, move the cursor over to it and click the Left Mouse Button. The goal is to have a bustling and powerful ant colony that can defend itself and launch offensives if need be. The number of ants is tracked in the top right corner along with the map while the resources are towards the top left corner. The colony will remain as long as you're willing to contribute to it.
When you begin, you'll have a few ants and some resources already gathered. The UI will give you options to interact with the colony in various ways. If you want to grow your colony, you need to spend resources to create more ants (each having different roles) or attack other insects to have them join your ranks. You can battle wild insects around your colony or go to battle and attack other colonies. During battles and attacks, any ants that are defeated will not be recovered back to the colony. Victories will earn you large chunks of resources and possibly new units.
Tips and Tricks
The ants are constantly working which gives this game idle properties (though the window needs to be open and active) so you can step away if you need to gather resources. Creating ants periodically ensures that you'll always be increasing your gathering as well as your fighting force. Rogue insects can be dangerous so be sure you're prepared to incur losses.
