However, you're not going to let that slow you down since you're determined to make sure that every person gets a gift this season. It's not always as easy as just picking it up and taking it there, sometimes the delivery path can be a bit more hazardous to your health, but tis the season.
About Winter Gifts
Many games involve the idea of delivering items to a person (hence the Fetch quest) but there are ways to make it less tedious. This game does it by turning each delivery into a challenge and puzzle to solve. It also combines elements of block puzzles to add more variety to each of the levels. There are more dynamics involved when you include loose assets that you can move. As such, there's more flexibility when it comes to finding a solution to the puzzle and then putting it together. The puzzles literally have pieces that you can move about into different positions.
How to Play
Winter Gifts is a 2D puzzle platform game about delivering gifts to people that you can play using the keyboard.
Controls
- W/Up Arrow - Jump
- A/Left Arrow - Move Left
- D/Right Arrow - Move Right
- Spacebar/C/U - Pick Up/Throw Gift
The goal of each level is to get the gifts to the people scattered throughout them. Both the gifts and people will spawn in different locations. The gift will count as received if it touches a person while in motion after having been thrown by you. You can choose the Speedrun option if you want to see how quickly you can clear all the levels.
As the gift giver, you're able to run and jump quickly around the level. When you come across a gift, you can pick it up and carry it with you. You can only carry one gift at a time and when you're carrying it, your running speed and jump height will be reduced. You can deliver and move gifts by throwing them either horizontally or vertically while jumping. Gifts also act as solid objects that you can stand on and stack on top of each other. When a person is holding a gift, it can still be used as a platform.
The main dangers are stranding yourself and running into spikes. If the latter happens, the gift giver will disappear and you'll have to restart. If the former happens, you can restart the level manually by pressing R. Gifts are unaffected by spikes and will sit in front of them. There are also moving buttons that you can press to make certain platforms disappear and gain access to new places.
Tips and Tricks
This is a game where you can go at a slower pace since it's possible to place a gift where you can no longer reach it. Get a good feel for the heights of your laden and unladen jumps so that you can plan out gift positions. If you'll be in the range of a jump or a throw from a person's position, go ahead and give them a gift since the created platform will have some extra height.
