Vex 6
Stickmen have been in all sorts of adventures and some have spilled into multiple games as you can tell from Vex 6. This particular stickman has been stuck in what appears to be some sort of platforming void for years now. How he got there and whether he wanted to be there are two mysteries that haven't been solved, but that's not important. What is important is that he's putting everything that he's got into trying to get past all the various platforming challenges. Luckily, he's got infinite lives (supposedly) and will keep going as long as you're willing to drive him forward.
About Vex 6
Platform games take many forms but some of the oldest ones have the most solid mechanics and straightforward goals. This game seems to follow its predecessors to maintain the stable gameplay it needs to work. The controls are simple and responsive with the assets having decently defined boundaries so that you know exactly how close you can get to danger. Still, the game will throw some tricks and surprises at you meaning that you can't drop your guard until you're safely to the exit or the next checkpoint at the very least.
How to Play
Vex 6 is a 2D platforming game controlled with the mouse and keyboard and has two different control schemes.
Controls
- W/Up Arrow - Climb Up
- S/Down Arrow - Duck/Slide/Enter Level
- A/Left Arrow - Move Left
- D/Right Arrow - Move Right
- Mouse Cursor (stand still) - Look Around
Swimming
- W/Up Arrow - Swim Forward
- S/Down Arrow - Swim Backward
- A and D/Left and Right Arrow - Change Direction
The goal is to get the stickman safely to the end of every level and hopefully out of this platforming world. The stickman is athletic allowing for running, jumping, flipping, wall-jumping, sliding, swimming, and carrying objects. Despite this, he's very fragile and will die at the slightest touch of a hazard which will send you back to the start or last checkpoint.
The levels are scattered around a hub area which is a level in itself full of dangers and collectibles. When you enter a level, you'll be given a list of objectives to complete to earn stars which can be put toward new skins for the stickman. The stars are also needed to unlock the hard mode versions of each level. While running through the levels, you'll encounter hazards like spikes, saws, pits, falling platforms, and even long falls. There are also additional stars and coins to collect throughout the levels.
Tips and Tricks
Like the other Vex games, you need to get a feel for the rhythm of the game and take time to examine the level. There are moments where you can run freely and others where you'll need to be more precise. Be careful of long empty stretches as that can indicate hidden traps.
