Vex 5
The world of Stickman games is a brutal one since when all you've got are stick figures, you need to rely on fun or challenging gameplay as you can find in Vex 5. Welcome to the early days of the Escape Room idea before it became a trending activity to do with your friends. Only once again, this stickman is alone and it's a bunch of Escape Rooms filled with deadly traps. The good news is that this figure seems to be in pretty good shape which comes in handy in this 2D platforming adventure. You may die a lot, but you must persevere.
About Vex 5
The Vex series may be vexing in terms of origins, but it's pretty direct in terms of gameplay. This is a pure platforming challenge where it's common to make a lot of mistakes and get frustrated. However, that's the point of the game: It's trying to get you to give up. But you can't, because you know how to beat it. You have all the skills and the know-how to beat each level and get to the end of this game. Of course, you can also just pop in and test your platforming experience if you feel like testing yourself.
How to Play
Vex 5 is a 2D platforming game controlled with the mouse and keyboard, providing two different control schemes.
Controls
- W/Up Arrow - Climb Up
- S/Down Arrow - Duck/Slide/Enter Level
- A/Left Arrow - Move Left
- D/Right Arrow - Move Right
- Mouse Cursor (stand still) - Look Around
Swimming
- W/Up Arrow - Swim Forward
- S/Down Arrow - Swim Backward
- A and D/Left and Right Arrow - Change Direction
The goal of the game is simple: Reach the end of each level. This is easier said than done as each level is filled with various jumps and numerous hazards. Touching any hazard results in instant death which sends you back to the last checkpoint, marked by red flags. There are also other elements to consider such as ice which reduces friction but improves sliding. There are also ropes to climb, things to swing on, platforms that fall and bounce, and locked doors that require keys to remove. Each level also has stars to collect for those going for 100 percent completion. You need to complete the levels (or "Acts") in order to unlock the way through the hub world in hopes of reaching the end.
Tips and Tricks
The game provides a nice camera perspective and a way to observe your surroundings, so take advantage of it. Get a feel for the jump arcs for the more precise sections and practice wall jumps which are in themselves quite tricky.
Vex 5 Challenge Mode
In addition to the main game mode, there's also the Challenge Mode which is a test of endurance and skill. The mode places you in a tower where you need to make your way up the different floors by reaching the green portal on each floor. There are over 30 floors and a counter keeps track of all your deaths in the top left corner. The floors are small and contained leaving little room for maneuverability, so only try this out if you're confident in your skill.
