Tafl Viking Chess
Description
Tafl Viking Chess transports you to the medieval halls of Scandinavian intrigue where strategy is your best ally. Comparable to chess, Tafl Viking Chess challenges players to either escort the valiant king to safety or plot a cunning siege to capture him. Playable under various settings, you choose board sizes and unique win conditions. Whether facing off against artificial intelligence or competing in multiplayer mode, each game promises a compelling blend of offense and defense as your pieces maneuver across the board's territories.
How to Play
Begin the game as the black attacker, taking the first move to position your pieces on the board. Each player takes turns moving pieces vertically or horizontally, akin to a chess rook, across empty squares. Capture your opponent's pieces by pincer movement, cleverly trapping them between two of your pieces. Defenders aim to move the king from the central "Throne" to the board's edge or corners, depending on the game variant. Conversely, attackers must surround the king to secure victory. Enjoy games against AI, a nearby friend, or online foes.
Tips and Tricks
Mastering board control is key. As a defender, focus on creating clear paths for the king, while attackers should strategically block exits. Pincer captures are crucial—plan your moves to double up on defense or create captures. Remember, not all battles require every piece in action, so thoughtful positioning can yield a decisive advantage. Online opponents may have varied strategies, so adapt quickly and don't hesitate to change tactics mid-game. Use the central "Throne" to your advantage for unexpected captures.
