The rage game still rages on, with creators making titles with no purpose but to make you want to break your device. Thus, we come to Syobon no Action - Cat Mario. This title was notorious online for making anyone who tried it question their gameplay experience. You are a cat that has adopted the form of Nintendo's mascot to have a similar adventure of your own. Unfortunately, the world in which you find yourself is not nearly as forgiving, and you can expect to be swiftly destroyed if you play too casually. This cat has come into your life to break you, so try not to let it.

Making a rage game is easy enough when you take the established form of something and then twist it to be hostile in numerous ways. In this game, many of the elements that you've come to expect from Mario games will be working against you. The cat is not nearly as smooth as Mario, and the world is awkward and random. All you can do is push forward and try to exercise some caution. If you can't do that, then you'll spend your whole session enraged and unfocused. But that's what the game wants from you; don't give it the satisfaction.

How to Play

Syobon no Action - Cat Mario is a 2D platform game about going through Mario-esque levels using the keyboard.

Controls

Z/Up Arrow - Jump
Left Arrow - Move Left
Right Arrow - Move Right
O - Death
F1 - Reset Game

The goal is to reach the end of each level. The cat has no health meter or hit indicator, so each form of damage will be lethal. Whenever the cat dies, they'll be sent back to the beginning of the level (or section if you're lucky).

When you enter a new level, the cat will spawn on the left side of the screen. From there, they must make their way through to reach the flag and castle at the end of it all. As they traverse the level, they'll encounter dangers like enemies, spikes, pitfalls, and crushing blocks. They can also collect coins if they see fit, but it's more about just reaching the end. Even though you have a life counter, you have an infinite number of lives that will keep counting down every time the cat dies.

Tips and Tricks

This game is designed to surprise you and catch you off-guard, whether you're cautious or not. Some things are there to confuse and distract you, so try not to focus on anything that wastes your time. Playing slowly can be a safe move, but know that the environment can turn on you anytime, so this may be about trial and error.
