Space Out
When you have the word "space" in the title, you would assume that space is involved somehow, but Space Out is one of the exceptions. There may be some sort of space theme going on, but it's up to interpretation. You control a high-tech paddleboard that is being used to clear some space (oh, there it is). You have access to balls that can destroy colorful blocks in their way as long as they're directed at them. The problem is that you only have so many balls which makes them quite valuable and means that you have to do your best to keep them in play.
About Space Out
One of the earliest games is Breakout which is all about breaking out of a level by using balls to break through blocks. This is another title that takes inspiration from it and tries to add a little bit of sci-fi flair to it. Of course, the mechanics are still the same as ever. You need to be on the ball as you move the paddle back and forth to catch all the balls and keep them heading into the blocks to eventually clear them out. There are other things to help you out as well, but the balls are your base tool.
How to Play
Space Out is a 2D arcade game about bouncing balls against blocks to remove them from space using just the mouse. To move the board, all you need to do is move the cursor left and right and the paddle will follow it sharply. The balls will bounce on their own and any modifications will trigger as soon as you collect them. The goal is to clear out all the blocks in the level to complete it and move on to the next one. If you lose all of the balls to the bottom of the screen, you'll lose.
When you start playing, the ball will be launched from the paddle at the center at the bottom of the screen. The ball will maintain a constant speed but will bounce differently based on the angle of contact with anything. Blocks of different colors can take multiple hits to break and will change color after every hit. As you break blocks, power-ups will drop from them which you can collect with the paddle. These can do things like multiply the number of balls in play or give the paddle laser guns which can destroy blocks directly. The more blocks you destroy, the more power-ups you can have in play.
Tips and Tricks
The key to any Breakout-type game is to keep your eye on the ball even if it's just one of them. As long as a ball is in play, you can't lose. The best way to do this is to hit the ball so that it goes above the blocks and bounces around wildly to break many of them and rain down all sorts of power-ups.
