Looking at the various indie titles of the past that have gained critical acclaim, they seem to follow small beings in a dark world which is what Shadoworld Adventure is all about. You are an unknown but bright-eyed humanoid with a big head who seems to be stuck in a shadowy world. Despite the lack of multiple colors, the world does have a lot going for it like nature and other living creatures. The only problem is that it has quite a lot of hazards, many of which pose a threat to your very existence. Still, can't let this world get you down as you run and jump your way through it.
About Shadoworld Adventure
The platforming game genre has become more and more complex as time goes on, but the simple ones can still be fun to play. This game is an example of such a one that anyone with a few minutes to spare can get into and enjoy. The boundaries and mechanics are clearly defined with the classic goal of getting from one end to the other. There are of course other elements thrown in to keep it varied, but the core of it is traditional platform gameplay that provides a nice break from the huge games made to be played over hours and days at a time.
How to Play
Shadoworld Adventure is a 2D platform game that you can play using the keyboard or the mouse.
Controls
- W - Jump (tap again for Double Jump)
- A - Move Left
- D - Move Right
To play with the mouse, you'll need to click the arrow icons on the bottom left and right sides of the screen (those on the left for moving, on the right for jumping). The goal of each level is to get the little shadow guy to the exit button at the end. Each level has a time limit for completion shown at the top of the screen.
As a platform game, the usual elements are present. You'll have ground areas at different elevations to jump to so that you can continue. There are stars scattered about which are the main collectibles and add to your overall score. The exit button is blocked by a barrier that can only be opened by a key that will be located somewhere within the level. Upon touching the button, you'll be shown your score and total stars before starting the next level.
There are multiple hazards that you'll need to avoid. The shadow guy has three hearts and so can take three hits from things like enemies and spikes. If you lose all your hearts, you'll have to restart the level. There are also skull blocks that break away a few seconds after you step on them. The most dangerous are pitfalls which count as an instant death if the shadow guy falls in.
Tips and Tricks
As far as platform games go, this is pretty straightforward. All the dangers and objects can be clearly seen giving you enough time to react and plan, though don't lose sight of the timer. Also, when it comes to working with skull blocks, make sure you don't break too many to prevent you from clearing a large gap.
