It's been many years since we humans decided to send robots up into space and now we're wondering about driving vehicles on other planets like in Rovercraft. While we still may be a long way away from being able to drive cars on the moon, we can fantasize about it and wonder about what kind of cars we'll get. One lucky astronaut has been sent into space to explore various planets and they've been given a vehicle called a Rover to drive along the different surfaces. Of course, the vehicle needs to be driven correctly and assembled to operate effectively on different planets.
About Rovercraft
The rovers are perhaps the most famous robots in the world and there are other types of rovers designed to be driven on other worlds. This game has you driving such a rover but it leaves room for improvement. You may be a trained astronaut who is able to drive rovers in space, but you're also expected to be a trained engineer. Things are going to break down and you need to be ready to fix them up and if resources allow it, to improve them. However, you won't get the chance to do so unless you do missions and earn your keep.
How to Play
Rovercraft is a 2D driving game about driving rovers on different space surfaces using only the keyboard or mouse. The onscreen controls can be used by moving the cursor over to them and clicking the Left Mouse Button. By using the Left/Right Arrow keys, you can move the rover in the respective directions. The amount of energy and the terrain map will be shown at the bottom of the screen. The goal is to drive the rover as far as possible but if you run out of energy or the astronaut gets injured, then you'll need to restart.
After completing the tutorial, you'll have the option to go through levels on different planets or to complete challenges. The latter will give you an assembled rover that you'll need to drive to the finish line, while the latter challenges you to make your rover and drive it as far as you can. Before you start driving, you can outfit your rover with new parts or upgrade its current parts, but both will cost coins and mercury. You can earn both by driving, collecting, and completing tasks that will net you more rewards. Whenever your rover stops, you'll be rewarded for how far you traveled.
The further you get, the more progress you make in unlocking other planets. You can also unlock new outfits for the astronaut by completing missions.
Tips and Tricks
This is a driving game that's all about balance and keeping the astronaut safe. The heavier the vehicle is, the more stable it is, but the less speed it has the more energy it'll consume. Alternate between the two keys to keep as many tires firmly on the ground as you can and protect the astronaut's head.
